Holcim set to sell Westport properties

-

Alarge and complex collection of land parcels has come to market at Cape Foulwind, near the South Island town of Westport.

Developed in the 1950s as a cement plant by Holcim, the cement company plans to build two new import terminals at Auckland and Timaru and close its Westport facility.

Several different types of property are up for sale, including a 186-hectare quarry which is still in use, an 8.6ha packing plant site on Nine Mile Rd, a water treatment plant, 11 staff houses, and wharf silos at the Westport harbour.

The buffer land for the plant and quarry includes a number of arable rural blocks totalling more than 200ha suitable for dairy.

Another 14ha of rural land to the west of the housing has spectacular sea views and could be used for lifestyle blocks or housing.

JLL agent John Binning said Holcim was looking for suitable groups that could take on a diverse landholding and potentially develop it in a sympathetic manner.

‘‘This is a complex property and the kind of opportunity that only comes along once in a property cycle,’’ he said.

Holcim plans to demolish the majority of the plant site with five buildings remaining for industrial and office use.

Expressions of interest close on July 14.

Ahistoric building in Auckland’s O’Connell St will soon be home to a branch of Melbourne-based restaurant and wine bar Meat Fish Wine.

Apples + Pears Entertainment will open its first New Zealand restaurant in the Auckland District Law Society’s building.

The ground floor restaurant space was previously occupied by Su Kho Thai.

JLL retail leasing and food and beverage broker Anthony Barton says the new owners liked the building’s character.

‘‘In the last five years, the area around O’Connell St, Fort St and Fort Lane has had a real lift. These streets are all shared space now, making them much more pleasant for pedestrians.’’

Meat Fish Wine will be led by executive chef David Schofield who started his career in the late 80s in Wellington.
