Location, style and low maintenance were the three things on Lisbeth Hayward’s mind when she began the search for her new home 11 years ago. Therefore, it’s hardly surprising that she chose this cleverly designed masterpiece at 182 Victoria Avenue to put down her roots. “We fell in love with this home due to its location and the potential we saw to add value, while stamping our own personal touches on the property.” Using her impeccable eye for detail, Lisbeth’s overall vision for the property was clear from the very beginning and it quickly became a labour of love as its transformation began. “The landscaping and interior design needed a lot of work. Walking in the front door felt like the interior belonged to another house as it did not aesthetically match the home’s architectural modern design or exterior.” She decided to tackle the interior walls first, trading the bland wallpaper with a soft, neutral paint finish, the drapes with roller blinds and installed modern light fittings throughout. In the main upstairs bathroom, the single box shower has been surpassed by a tiled walk-in shower and outside; professional landscapers have created a sumptuous barbecue area using polished concrete and tiled pavers to create outdoor flow from the downstairs living, kitchen and dining. Easy to manage garden beds compliment this space and provide Lisbeth with a space to grow organic herbs and vegetables. “One of my main passions in life is gardening. I have a busy lifestyle, so building a garden that’s easy to look after was key for me. I also love to entertain and most of our summer months have been spent enjoying our new courtyard/garden into the evening and taking advantage of the good weather,” Lisbeth says. Having embraced her customised abode for many years now, she highlights the functional kitchen as one of her favourite parts of the home, in addition to the easy separation of the two living areas, which can be closed off from one another for privacy. While Lisbeth no longer needs the space, she attests that the home would suit a family or a professional couple, who could utilise the downstairs area for a boarder to help pay the mortgage. “Though I may be biased, I feel our home’s location is among the best in Palmerston North. It’s an easy 10 minute walk from the CBD and there is plenty of walking and cycling tracks nearby to enjoy in your downtime. I will be sad to leave, but I am excited for my next adventure,” she says.
