Sunny outlook for Blenheim

A visit to 38 Elisha Drive in Blenheim wasn’t quite love at first site for John and Lynley, but it was very close to it.

“John was the first to view this home when we weren’t really even looking, but it didn’t take all that much to convince me,” Lynley says. “From the minute you walk through the front door into the foyer there is a WOW factor with an indoor garden and water feature and that’s before you have even seen the view! “We didn’t realise that there were views like this in Blenheim until we came up here, and its only five minutes’ from town.” Architecturally designed and built in the late 1980s, this imposing home was the first in the street and it still looks like one of the newest. One of its most distinctive features is the `nook’ - the turret at the end of the lounge with views all round. It’s a warm, sunny spot for a conversation or a coffee. The home has four double bedrooms, including the master with a large walk-in wardrobe, tiled en suite, a sunny sitting area and doors out to the pool and a private deck by the pond. The renovated kitchen has polished granite bench tops, a walk-in pantry and gas cooking. Encompassing a sizeable 2773sqm site, the land surrounding the home is a balanced mixture of lawn, established gardens and incredible outdoor living. John and Lynley’s two favourite features, apart from the stunning 180 degree views, are the pool and outdoor entertaining area. “We have created the ultimate BBQ/patio area out the back, with a huge kwila deck where it is sheltered from the north west wind,” Lynley says. “It is all under cover with LED lighting and a waterproof shade sail we love entertaining under, especially in summer. “ The pool is solar heated and gets up into the high 20s in the hottest parts of summer. “This past summer it has had the most use ever from our two grandsons who live nearby and swam most days. Watching Archie and Charlie gain confidence and progress so much with their swimming has been a real joy.” The keen gardeners have terraced the front garden and re-planted a huge amount of it. There is a “mini native bush” on the steepest part of the section to the east of the house which has attracted a lot of birdlife. They have even acquired a peacock! The home’s driveway has also had a major overhaul, completely re-sealing it and creating a huge amount of off street parking. A huge hobbies room at the top of the house, on level 3, has been used as a sewing room and has a large cutting bench built in. John and Lynley have spent 14 happy years in the home but no longer need a big house anymore, giving another lucky family the opportunity to soak up all this home has to offer.
