Neighbours of an Auckland house where a man was shot in the back with a nail gun say there had been a brawl earlier in the night.

The man was admitted to hospital in the early hours of the morning but was later discharged with moderate injuries.

A man found near the scene in the suburb of Mt Albert has been arrested, and damage to cars in relation to the incident was being investigated, police said.

Neighbours reported hearing an outbreak of violence.

Farhana Cabir said she was upset to find her car windscreen had been smashed during the brawl.

‘‘It’s so annoying actually... I don’t know how I can go to work now,’’ she said.

She had heard some and yelling in the early the morning.

It was usually a nice neighbourhood to live in, she said, but now she was scared.

Moin Mohammad, who had lived on the street for around three years, said he had also had his car windows smashed.

He said he was also scared his wife and children now.

Neighbours said they were alerted to the incident about 3.15am, and collected items along the road, including an iron bar, shoes, a jacket, and a wooden pole from in front of a car.

There was around a 10m trail of glass scattered along the road from the seven cars that were damaged.

The house where the fight began had a smashed window and a blue BMW in the driveway which also had a smashed window.

A woman inside the house said she was not there last night, but today she was the only one home.

She said she did not know what had happened but believed it to be a ‘‘misunderstanding’’ between her family members. shouting hours of for
