The Bevis Frond New River Head (Southbound)
★★★1/2
If you are a newcomer to The Bevis Frond, this is as good a place as any to dip your toes in their psychedelic stream of fuzzed up, amped up rock and psychedelic folk. At times it’s hard to fathom Nick Saloman’s stoner lyrics or his constant musical re-invention – let alone ever changing lineup of sidekicks – but when he’s got a serious collaborator such as Current 93’s David Tibet punking out on
Undertaker or he lets his bandmates loose on the seriously tripped-out and heady brew that is the epic The Miskatonic
Variations II, it’s hard not to be impressed. At 30 tracks short with no real sense of continuity, you’ll have to pick out the liquorice from the allsorts.
