Lula faces charges

Brazilian police yesterday charged former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva with corruption and money laundering, as his successor faces an impeachment trial expected to oust her permanently. Lula had planned to appear at suspended President Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment trial next week, in a show of support. Once the most popular president in Brazilian history, Lula is already being investigated for allegedly obstructing justice.
