The Veils Total Depravity (Nettwork)
Somewhere between the autobiographical and the observational, expatriate Kiwi Finn Andrews finds the creative terrain to unveil The Veils’ most experimental album to date. Total Depravity might well be a personal metaphor for his own life and the world at large – who can presume? It’s certainly an interesting and powerful album aided and abetted by El-P, who adds an experimental edge to the group’s Rolling Stones-ish rock out to the max sound. There are references to Ingrid Bergman, the Pope, Mexican salamanders and the Scientology founder L Ron Hubbard and an emotional directness that makes Total
Depravity sound as if Andrews has been feasting with Baal. –
