Manhunt on for gunman

- SIMON MAUDE

Police were last night looking for a man in connection with a fatal shooting in South Auckland yesterday morning.

Emergency services called to a Manurewa address found a 32-year-old man on the driveway with a gunshot wound to his stomach. He died at the scene.

Police are looking to speak with 23-year-old Bodi McKee in relation to the shooting.

The two men were known to each other and had an ‘‘altercation’’ at the house, Detective Inspector Gary Lendrum said.

McKee is Maori, 183cm tall, of medium build and has tattoos on his left shoulder and left forearm. Police believe he is armed.

The victim of the shooting was described as a caring family man by his aunty, who is rushing up from Wellington to join grieving relatives. The woman, who did not wish to be identified, said her nephew ‘‘always looked after heaps of people’’.

A nearby resident described hearing loud talking and yells from the house, then a muffled sound like a firecracker going off. On investigating he saw a hatchback racing off at speed, its wheels riding up on the kerb as it disappeared around the corner.
