House hazard

-

The only reason for the housing ‘‘crisis’’ is people want to live in Auckland, for their own reasons. If the Government wish to substantially lower the average house price in the country’s largest city, then it must drive people away from Auckland.

This will not happen without a sudden economic meltdown.

There are many very rich and influential people and organisations with large property investments in the city who are not about to see millions of dollars stripped from these investments. Also, the Government will not wish to see similar losses in tax revenue.

Private companies will not wish to be the solution without incentives. What could they be? Gerald McCully, Auckland
