45 Years Tonight, 8.30pm Rialto
A finely nuanced, tautly-scripted study of guilt, jealousy, longing and insensitivity, Andrew Haigh’s stunning and fascinating British drama benefits from two veteran actors at the top of their game. Tom Courtenay delivers a quietly powerful performance as a man who suddenly begins viewing his world with jaundiced eyes after he hears of the discovery of the body of a former girlfriend. He’s upstaged though by the always captivating Charlotte Rampling, who runs a truly believable and understandable gamut of emotions.
