Coldplay completes big day for hot Baker and Forsman stable

- TIM RYAN

Winning owner Gary Wallace has got it sussed.

‘‘You go to the best stallion, you go to the best trainer and you race it with your best mate,’’ he said after Coldplay took out the Group II CAL Isuzu Stakes (1600m).

The Savabeel mare is trained at Cambridge by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman and Wallace races the horse with his long-time mate Waikato Stud’s Garry Chittick.

The Baker and Forsman stable has been in hot form recently which has seen them rise to the top of the trainers’ premiership and Coldplay was the icing on the top of a winning treble for the day.

Coldplay won the Te Rapa race under a confident ride from jockey Craig Grylls and advanced her record to five wins, three at blacktype level, from 12 starts.

She impressed winning the Eagle Technology Stakes at her previous start and next up will tackle the Group I Zabeel Classic (2000m).

‘‘A Group I is all that is missing for her,’’ Forsman said. ‘‘It’s just a matter of finding the right one.

‘‘It could be the Zabeel Classic to see whether she runs 2000 metres and then maybe freshen her up for the Thorndon.’’

Rising Shot acquitted herself extremely well in jumping from a previous Rating 75 victory to finish runner-up ahead of her stablemate Stolen Dance, who led 300m from home and peaked on her run in her first appearance for four months.

Te Rapa trainer David Greene was thrilled with the effort of both his horses.

Coldplay was bred by Wallace a leading Auckland real estate agent Gary Wallace who has been breeding and racing horses for many years.

Coldplay’s pedigree is Waikato Stud through and through, being out of the O’Reilly mare Forty Two Below. Waikato Stud will offer a full-sister to the mare at the 2017 Karaka yearling sales.

‘‘She’s come back this season a bigger and stronger mare,’’ Baker said. ‘‘She should be capable of getting over a bit more ground and nows a good time to find out.’’

Grylls was never concerned as Coldplay travelled sweetly throughout. ‘‘I was always confident of picking them up and she was strong to the line.’’ he said. ‘‘She shouldn’t have any problem going further.’’

On a great day, the white hot trainers Baker and Forsman won the Waikato Cup with Lizzie L’Amour and produced the winner of the juvenile race Caesour’s Dream completing a double for Australian owner Sean Buckley.

The familiar green and black colours were also carried to success earlier in the week by smart winner Street Ranger at Hastings.

Nicconi filly Caesour’s Dream could be set for a black-type race over the holiday period after her professional display under jockey Michael Coleman.

Caesour’s Dream had been placed at her first two starts before she led all the way to open her account at Te Rapa.

‘‘She did everything right after she raced greenly the other day at Otaki,’’ Baker said.

‘‘She’s a lovely filly and we might look at a stakes race at Ellerslie for her over Christmas, but she will be even better in the autumn.’’
