A taste of the country life

- CATHERINE HARRIS

Two rural Auckland property opportunities are separately trying to woo Auckland urbanites to taste the country life.

In Kaukapakapa, a settlement 40 minutes north-west of Auckland, the first units are up for lease or sale in a mixed-use ‘‘village centre’’.

Not far from Helensville, the town is poised for significant growth, similar to Silverdale.

Seated next to the’’iconic’’ Kaukapakapa Village Hotel, the centre will feature shops, offices, upper-level apartments, a supermarket and service station.

Resource consent has been granted for a licensed bar or restaurant and four commercial spaces, three of which are already leased.

While the first stage is due open in the second quarter of next year, a stage two is planned for 2018.

Dave Crow, of Century 21 Crow Realty, said.the development would make the village more of a destination.

‘‘Kaukapakapa is a fast-growing community that is crying out for a retail village of this scale.’’

Meanwhile, 60km southwest of Auckland, a freehold 4,011 square metre parcel of land is being marketed as a development opportunity in Waiuku.

The site at 47 Constable Rd is zoned mixed housing suburban which allows for low-level intensification.

Home to a small business for many years, the site will be sold with vacant possession.

JLL agent Kurt Rains said Waiuku was ‘‘a country town that is rapidly becoming part of Auckland city’’ as more families moved there.

Perhaps best known for the nearby Glenbrook steel mill, it serves a population of about 8000 people and is six minutes’ drive from a black sand beach.

The population is forecast to increase by 23 percent between 2018 and 2028.

?? ?? It takes 55 minutes in off-peak traffic to reach Waiuku.
