Resolve to think about five goals for 2017

- ZAC DE SILVA

Iknow some of you will think a bit about business over the next month, even from the beach, lake, bush or home. I would be thinking about these 5 things:

What do you need to learn personally to be able to perform better in 2017? You will probably meet a few interesting people over summer who might have some good ideas on how to get around what is holding you back. Lesson

one: Be acutely aware of the barrier to performing better and then do something positive.

Over the past year, you will have frustrated someone in your business or a customer. If you consider objectively what you did to frustrate them, was it your fault or are they a little deluded in how they saw your actions or inaction?

Lesson two: Make sure you consider how you frustrated others and work out how to reduce the risk of repeating.

Consider what is the biggest positive thing that could happen for you, your team and your business in 2017. Literally the dream number one thing.

The only way to have a chance of achieving this dream is if you consider the first step. Give yourself some deadlines. Put the things you need to do in your calendar and set time aside to make them happen. Lesson three: Put time into thinking about the thing that will make the biggest difference, and then do something about it.

What is your elephant in the room? Meaning we all have things that we know we should have addressed, but have either not set the time aside, or aren’t brave enough to do something about it. Holiday chill thinking time is a great time to make some progress on steps. Lesson four: Time to stop putting off those difficult actions and conversations. Be brave. Resolutions can be fantastic but

Lesson five is that goals can be a waste of time, unless you work out how to achieve them and move forward on them regularly. Have a system that works for you and move forwards every week!

What is your business elephant in the room?
