Richie wedding talk of the town

-

Rumours were swirling last night that former All Black captain Richie McCaw and Gemma Flynn were married in a private ceremony at the resort town of Wanaka.

McCaw and the former Black Sticks hockey star have been together for four years, and became engaged in Wanaka in January last year.

The couple have been holidaying in Wanaka this week, and have been joined by friends and family.

According to one source, guests met at a secret location before being bussed to the venue.

Another source in Wanaka said the wedding was the talk of the town, and McCaw was to be married in the area yesterday.

Staff at bars in Wanaka told the Sunday Star-Times a number of former rugby stars had been spotted in the town in recent days

Wedding or not, friends and family of the All Black great and his fiancee have been on social media shutdown in recent days.

The couple themselves have also been missing online; McCaw last posted on Facebook on Thursday, when he remarked it was a beautiful evening for fishing. Flynn posted a picture from the top of Roys Peak – a 1500m mountain near Wanaka – to her Instagram account on Thursday.

In November, Flynn said she just wanted to enjoy the wedding, and she and McCaw were taking a relaxed approach to the big day.

‘‘People forget to enjoy it and what we say is we’re getting married because that’s what we want to do,’’ she said.

‘‘Those who love us are going to enjoy the day if we’re all together and that’s the main thing.’’

As part of the wedding preparations, Flynn took part in Say Yes To The Dress Australia, a reality show where a team of experts helps brides-to-be find their perfect wedding dress.

In December, McCaw and Flynn spent around $2.5 million on a house in an upmarket suburb of Christchurch.
