Q. I’m going to San Francisco in June and wondered if five days is too long? Apart from the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz, what else can I do?

A.

San Francisco is a beautiful city with so much to do. With only five days there, I would suggest spending your first day doing a hop-on-hop-off bus tour, which is the smartest way to get a brief overview of the city.

On your second day, visit the Golden Gate Bridge by bicycle – you can bike along the path in Crissy Field, then cross the bridge and ride down to Sausalito before taking the ferry back to Fisherman’s Wharf.

Pre-book an Alcatraz tour for day three, and on day four, take a cable car ride. You can visit the Cable Car Museum and stop at the corner of Lombard St for the best photography spot in San Francisco. On your last day, visit the ‘Painted Ladies’, a row of Victorian houses with the city’s skyline in the background. You see them on postcards, movies and TV shows, but as with anything – you can’t beat seeing them with your own eyes.
