Ever stolen anything?

-

I was watching a video of Mac Demarco the other day, who was being interviewed while also being made to eat the hottest chili sauce on the shelf. In amongst his tears and sweats he managed to deliver the wonderful line ‘‘No one knows how to achieve happiness (choke), but if you take baby steps (sweat), perhaps being happy on Our first TV performance for The Naked And Famous was pretty good. Someone thought it was a good idea we all put on lots of black eye liner, ’cos that’s what TV makeup is, right? Only one thing in my life I can recall. That was a 50c lighter from a supermarket because the lines were huge and we only had four minutes to do something really important before going into the movie theatre…

Drink of choice?

Ginger kombucha, because that’s what happens to you when you’ve been living in LA for a while.

What are you reading right now?

My girlfriend is away, and she’s normally the one who reminds me to stop what I’m doing and read a book. So naturally, there is no book in sight right now.

Listening to?

Bespin, a New Zealand band that opened for our The Naked And Famous show earlier in the year. They’re very heavy but also, very moving. That, and rediscovering old Paul Simon records. Also, right now, Moby’s four-hour ambient album that he just released for free is playing in the background.

What are you looking forward to?

A visit back home to New Zealand is always something on the horizon for me, from the moment I leave my last visit. The family dog is getting very grey around the muzzle now.

What job would you do other than your own, and why?

I’m a geek at heart. I worked in IT before going full-time musician. Music always has to be around, just let me keep geekin’. Otherwise, I’ll take a dog shelter. – Mike Alexander
