Black is the new, er, black

-

There is a scene in the cult classic film This Is Spinal Tap where one of the characters asks how much more black could their album cover get and then cluelessly says ‘‘The answer is none. None… more black’’.

Now it seems Ford has taken that sentiment to heart with the release the Ranger FX4 and Everest FX2, both of which can get none more black.

The two special editions, available from May 1, offer customers ‘‘a unique look and a bit more attitude’’ according to Ford New Zealand.

The Ranger FX4 takes the country’s best selling ute in XLT trim and adds a new design of grey 18-inch alloy wheels, black roof rails, black bonnet and tailgate decals, a black sports bar, rear bumper, side steps and door handles, a unique design black grille, fog Lamp bezels, exterior mirrors and fender features, leather accented ‘‘FX4’’ seats and black interior highlights.

The Everest FX2 also gets the black treatment with black badges, a black grille, black roof rails and tinted windows, as well as new 18-inch semi-gloss alloy wheels and leather accented ‘‘FX2’’ seats. The Everest FX2 is also the introduction of a RWD option for the Everest.

Both the Ranger FX4 and Everest FX2 get the latest incarnation of Ford’s SYNC infotainment system that features full Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, satellite navigation and a new 8-inch touch-screen with ‘‘pinch and swipe’’ capability.

The Ranger FX4 is limited to 200 units and will cost $65,390, while the Everest FX2 is limited to 50 units, is RWD only and will cost $69,990.
