Surf rescue

Teenage surfers have helped rescue two Taranaki fishermen whose small inflatable boat overturned. Eyewitnesses said the boat tried to cross the Waitara River bar but turned side-on and was flipped by a wave. Seth Williams, 16, saw the men in difficulty and alerted fellow surfers, who kept the duo afloat until two leisure craft arrived to take them back to shore.
