Dishes dilemmas

-

Fifty years ago I flatted with a chemistry graduate, and was castigated for creating suds, which he said reduced the cleaning benefit of the detergent (‘‘Wash, rinse ... wait, what?’’, Focus, April 16). His advice was to delay squirting the detergent into the sink until the required level of water had been reached. Adopting that, ever since I have found there is a minimum of suds created and the dishes and cutlery come out of the sink sparkling clean with no need to rinse whatsoever.
