Like in New Zealand, brunch in New York isn’t just the meal that marries breakfast and lunch, it’s a sacred ritual performed each weekend by thousands of the city’s local inhabitants.
I recommend starting off with a strong coffee before tucking into some of the best brunch spots in town, as thoroughly researched on the ground by yours truly.
If you’re anything like me, a complete egg addict, you’ll thoroughly enjoy Egg Shop, situated at 151 Elizabeth St (between Kenmare and Broome streets).
You can get your eggs every which way in this cute little cafe, but I’d recommend the light and clean ‘‘spandex’’ option.
Jack’s Wife Freda at 224 Lafayette St (between Spring and Kenmare streets), is THE hot brunch spot.
An American-Mediterranean mix, this is where you’re most likely to rub shoulders with some sort of well-known actor, director, editor, artist or DJ.
Followed by my absolute favourite, located at 101 St Mark’s Place (between 1st Avenue and Avenue A), Cafe Mogador offers hands down one of the best brunches I’ve ever had. Not just in Manhattan or America, the world. That’s how good this Middle Eastern restaurant is.
The haloumi eggs are by far the best thing on the menu.
