Brigitta Moore, Travel Consultant, House of Travel Northlands (Christchurch) Q: I am planning a stopover in Malaysia for about seven days. We are a family of two adults and two teenage boys and would like to do a mix of sightseeing, amusement parks and shopping. I also enjoy open markets. Where would be the best place to stay and what’s the best way to get around?

A: Kuala Lumpur is a great destination. Your teenagers will love the indoor theme park in Berjaya Times Square, as well as the famous aquarium. Another highlight is the bird park, home to the world’s largest free-flight walk-in aviary.

I highly recommend a visit to the Petronas Twin Towers – take a ride to the top for stunning views.

I suggest staying at the Berjaya Times Square where you can get a spacious two-bedroom apartment, perfect for a family. You will be close to shopping malls and local open air markets.

Kuala Lumpur has a reliable, modern public transport system but most sights are within walking distance of your hotel. After long days enjoying the sights, sample the diverse cuisine on offer.
