Timely release from Porsche

- DAMIEN O'CARROLL

If buying the most powerful 911 so far made isn’t quite exclusive enough for you, Porsche can provide you with the opportunity make your purchase even more special.

For the first time, Porsche Design has collaborated with Porsche Motorsport to develop a watch that will only be available to purchasers of the new 911 GT2 RS.

The 911 GT2 RS Chronograph boasts the first watch movement developed by Porsche Design and is the result of three years’ work.

The housing is made of lightweight titanium and the design is said to be ‘‘inspired by motorsport’’, with the tungsten winding rotor modelled on the design of the GT2 RS’s wheels.

The GT2 RS is pretty special itself, packing a 515kW/750Nm version of the 3.8-litre bi-turbo flat six engine from the 911 Turbo S. Weighing in at 1470kg with a full fuel tank, the RS accelerates from 0-100kmh in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 340kmh.

That sort of performance isn’t cheap, however, and the 911 GT2 RS is available for order now in New Zealand at an eye-watering $580,000, with local deliveries expected in the second quarter of next year.

The price for the watch is yet to be announced. But if you have to ask... you know how it goes.
