Dabber in trouble

A Saudi television star has been arrested after a video of him performing the dance move known as the dab went viral. Abdullah alShahrani, a singer and actor, pulled the move on stage at a concert in Taif before an all-male audience. The move is banned by the Saudi interior ministry’s national drug control commission, which considers it a reference to cannabis consumption. Abdul-Ella al-Sharif, secretary-general of the national committee for drug control, told Saudi media that Shahrani’s dance move was ‘‘contrary to the national strategy to combat drugs’’. Shahrani has tweeted his apologies, but is unclear what punishment he faces.
