The Michigan Department of Civil Rights has lodged a complaint against a man whose front-yard sign advertising the sale of his home indicates that he won’t sell to foreigners. The sign in front of Iraq War veteran James Prater’s home in Mason says ‘‘Terms No foreigners Iraq vet’’. The department says the sign violates state and federal laws against discrimination based on national origin. Prater, a former United States Army sergeant whose house has been for sale for about a month with no price tag, says he hasn’t discriminated against anyone because he has received no offers for the property.
