Q. I am travelling to Scotland and would like to see the Highlands. Where are the best places to stay and what are the must-see sights?

A.

I spent four months living in Edinburgh while on my OE and loved it. Scotland is known for its outstanding natural beauty, warm hospitality and fascinating cultural heritage.

It really depends on how long you have but I would definitely head to Loch Ness. It’s about a three-hour drive from Edinburgh – try your luck spotting Nessie!

The Isle of Skye is well worth a visit, and stop at the popular Eilean Donan Castle (featured in the film Highlander )to capture some amazing photos. There are some great scenic walks on Skye.

A two- to three-night stay would be the perfect amount of time there. Inverness is the capital of the Highlands and a day trip to Ullapool has to be on your list for the best fish and chips. If time permits visit Orkney in the far north.

The Scotch Whisky Experience in Edinburgh is a must-do for any trip to Scotland, as is the Jacobite Steam Train – aka the Hogwarts Express for all Harry Potter fans.
