Reunions resume

-

Reunions of families separated since the Korean War will resume in August as part of the fast-moving engagement between the two Koreas, Red Cross envoys said yesterday after meetings in North Korea. The reunions will take place over six days beginning on August 20, in the first such event since 2015. About 100 people from each side will take part in the gatherings on North Korea’s Mt Kumgang, a resort about 15km north of the demilitarised zone between North and South Korea. Nearly 20,000 people have taken part in 20 rounds of reunions since 2000, but they have been shelved in recent years by South Korea to protest nuclear and missile tests by the regime of Kim Jong Un.
