The growing number of visitors to Mt Everest is turning the planet’s highest peak into a rubbish dump.

Discarded camping and climbing gear litter the route to the summit, Agence France Presse reported. ‘‘It’s disgusting, an eyesore,’’ said Pemba Dorje Sherpa, who has climbed to the summit 18 times. The rising number of inexperienced climbers is an issue. Unable to carry their own gear, they leave it to the sherpas, who are then unable to carry down rubbish.
