Girl’s dream meeting with Ardern

-

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern briefly looked after an impatient 5-year-old after she got separated from her parents.

Anya Whiteacre’s mother, Narelle, said her family went to Auckland’s Diwali celebrations on Saturday where Ardern spoke.

‘‘She saw Jacinda and got really excited. She has always wanted to meet her. So we waited around after she finished for the chance of fulfilling her dream,’’ said Whiteacre.

But the young girl’s excitement got the better of her and she took off through the crowd shouting ‘‘Jacinda, Jacinda’’.

‘‘Anya just ran up to her. I’m not sure what Jacinda and my daughter discussed, but she put her hand on Anya’s shoulder and was looking around for us,’’ Whiteacre said.

Whiteacre and her husband, Nick, eventually managed to catch up with Anya, who was beaming.
