LAST CHANCE TO BUY LIVING REMUERA MASTERPIECE

Nearing completion of his 58-apartment development at 10 St Marks Road, Remuera, former breast surgeon John Harman adds a magnum opus to what has already been a significant career.

-

The 65-year-old set up a breast clinic for New Zealand women, providing breast reconstruction, breast reduction, breast augmentation and all aspects of breast cancer surgery. John Harman says it was losing his mother as a teenager that motivated him to specialise in breast cancer surgery.

Just over three years ago, John was forced to end his 35-year vocation after an accident in Switzerland left him with permanent damage to this wrist. Out of the ashes of that adversity sprang John’s decision to develop his clinic’s site in St Marks Road.

The St Marks complex has achieved that and more. It is a six-storey masterpiece, with spectacular residences set to entirely change our appreciation of apartment living. The auction sale of its last available apartment in November will be the public’s last change to own a piece of apartment perfection.

What are the lifestyle benefits of living at St Marks?

We hired one of the top architects in the world to create contemporary, family-oriented apartment living – there’s no real equivalent in Auckland. The interiors, by Amelia Holmes, have a New York feel, reflecting the years the designer has spent living in that city. The high stud, light-filled and full-width living spaces allow for larger scale, “Remuera-style” entertaining and the room needed for families to grow.

There is a communal green offering a relaxed space for social connection and interaction. The green will reflect seasonal change and burst with floral colour throughout the year.

Tell us about its location.

No. 10 St Marks is a quiet Remuera location sandwiched between Mt Hobson and Newmarket. It’s a double-Grammar Zone address. We’ve included child-friendly spaces, including the secure communal green where children have room to play. It’s within walking distance to all the action in Newmarket and the new Westfield premier shopping district. Remuera is also easily accessible.

Describe your favourite features of the apartments.

The light – hands down. These apartments are filled with light which adds warmth and conviviality. The living rooms have been designed as ‘outdoor rooms’ with external sliders that extend to the full width of the apartment. They are highly flexible in that they allow you to open the room to the sun and warmth of summer but pull shut for a cosy winter.

Tell us about the Mac 101 apartment.

It is one of 17 apartments in the Mac building on MacMurray Road. It is the last for sale because it has been our showroom apartment. As such, it as been fitted out with the very best specifications in every regard with no expense spared. It is aspirational.
