Zeit-bites: best streaming genre shows of the year

Hey genre nerds, did we have a good year or what? The Streaming Giants catered to our whims. Here’s my list of the best genre TV on offer in 2018: The new season of left us too frustrated to write much about it. In fictional crime, Neon’s was the followup season of we didn’t know we needed, and TVNZ pushed the boundaries of streaming with

the TV equivalent of a choose your own crime drama.

Crime: Historical:

Netflix rules the historical realm. took us back to the grimy and gritty days of Alfred The Great, and made us fall in love with Robert the Bruce.

The Cohen brothers’ heralded the age of Oscar-winning film-makers making TV shows and reunited Liam Neeson with his favourite horse.

Witches supplanted vampires and werewolves as the creepers du jour with Netflix’s magnificen­t hexing our screens. On Neon, cast a romantic spell on us, and set our pulses racing, while Netflix’s made ghosts scary again.

Western: Horror: Sci-fi:

themes before shuffling off the mortal coil.

made us question everything, including our own DNA. tried to give an old classic a modern twist, and put the blame for a robot’s actions squarely on the shoulders of the human programmin­g (or reprogramm­ing) them. The best of the sci-fi best, however, goes to season 3 of

(Lightbox), starring Kiwi Frankie Adams as a kick-ass Martian warrior.
