I’m a big music fan, so Memphis, Nashville and New Orleans are on my bucket list. Can you recommend a road-trip itinerary?

The ideal American road trip heads from New Orleans up to Nashville via Memphis, taking in the rich history, landscapes and, of course, music of Louisiana, the Mississippi and Tennessee.

Retrace the steps of your musical heroes and gorge on the Deep South’s delicious cuisine in New Orleans. Frenchmen St is home to live music, bars, pubs, and clubs, including The Spotted Cat. It’s kind of rundown but I love the oldschool jazz.

Heading north, the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale explains how blues came to be, and swing by Ground Zero Blues Club for a quick bite, beer and more blues. Don’t forget to detour via Indianola to visit the

B B King Museum.

In Memphis, you’ll find the Rock ’n’ Soul Museum, Sun Studio (where The King recorded his first record), Graceland estate, and B B King’s own Blues Club on Beale St.

In Nashville, shop at eclectic indie boutiques and book a tour of RCA Studio B. Honky Tonk Highway is lined with atmospheric bars, but you’ll also find a pretty mean food scene.
