Some of Europe’s most spectacular natural areas can be found in the beautiful country of Croatia.

From characterful old towns to scattered islands in the Adriatic Sea, and local cuisine that will make any foodie drool, there’s a little something for everyone in this Mediterranean hot spot.

To help you choose the best of the best, here are a few favourite spots from my adventures.

Dubrovnik: You can get the best panoramic views of the city by taking the cable car to the top of Mt Srd.

Game of Thrones fans should join one of the many walking tours to locations that feature in the television show, such as Gradac Park (the scene of Margaery and Joffrey’s wedding).

If you’d like to explore on your own, you can download a Game of Thrones plan to map out your holiday.

Adriatic islands: A good way to travel between these islands is on local ferries or on a chartered sailing adventure.

A must-visit island is lavender-scented Hvar. Be sure to explore the interior, as well as the hip bars and cafes of the main harbour. Kayaking is also a great way to explore, especially around the Kornati National Park.
