TV stars top of the pods

- Katy Atkin katy.atkin@stuff.co.nz

New podcast series are released regularly and the current top 10 on the New Zealand podcast charts is dominated by shows hosted by well-known television stars.

Try David Tennant does a podcast with . . . I’m a big fan of interview podcasts and the latest one from actor David Tennant doesn’t disappoint. Each episode he hosts a celebrity mate dropping by for a chat and the impressive lineup includes Jon Hamm, Jodie Whittaker and Olivia Colman. It’s low-concept but high in engaging conversation, and Tennant is delicious to listen to. He’s charming and quirky, and his questions are well researched and thoughtful. He and Broadchurch co-star Olivia ‘‘Coly’’ Colman are very giggly and naughty in episode one, but there’s good insight into the world of celebrity. I can’t wait to listen to more and am also following the podcast on instagram at @davidtennantpod.

David Walliams is a modern-day Roald Dahl. David Walliams’ Marvellous Musical Podcast introduces children to classical music and features all sorts of musical instruments and how to play them. It’s delightfully produced with modern references in the storytelling. Kids under 10 will love this – it’s as fun as Walliams’ books.

If you’ve heard of Married At First Sight, then you’ve probably heard of Samuel Levi, one of the most controversial participants last year. In Keeping it real with Samuel Levi, he answers some of the questions around his experience and talks about life as a ‘‘social influencer’’.

It’s absolute drivel but it’s been No 1 on the NZ iTunes charts, and is perfect for fans of the MAFS craze.
