Singh joins Bayern first team
Sarpreet Singh has been called up to join the Bayern Munich first team.
The New Zealand international is one of a quartet of promising young players promoted from the reserves to permanently work with the German giants’ first team by coach Hansi Flick.
‘‘We’ve promoted four youth players to the senior team, Joshua Zirkzee, Oliver Batista Meier, Sarpreet Singh and Leon Dajaku,’’ Flick said before his side was due to meet Fortuna Dusseldorf in their latest Bundesliga outing.
‘‘We’re convinced that these boys will develop in the best way if they train with the best players. In our first-team, they have the conditions to do that.’’
Singh played a host of games for the club during a pre-season tour but has yet to make his Bundesliga debut, with Dajaku the only member of the quartet to do so, playing twice last season while at VfB Stuttgart.
Flick took over as Bayern coach from Niko Kovac recently.
Singh, 20, has been playing well for Bayern Munich’s reserve team, who play in 3.Liga, and hoping for an opportunity with the first team.
‘‘If you’re in the second team of Bayern you want to push up and try and get an opportunity with the first team. But in order to do that it’s not easy,’’ Singh told Stuff last month.
‘‘They’re Bayern Munich for a reason. They’re one of the world’s best teams so you have to be consistent every single day and be the best player you can be. If you’re doing that then I think opportunities will come for sure. But it’s easier said than done.’’
