Liddell for OECD

Misery for mums

I am truly not a prude or a moralistic person and I have immense sadness and pity for people ‘‘living on the edge’’ (Focus, November 29). Their situations are so sad and I can’t imagine the horror of it all.

But, and it is a big but, why do they continue to have children? One woman with two pregnant daughters and another with a fifth child, aged one!

I chose many, years ago to stop at one child as I knew I would not ever have the wherewithal to make as good a life for her as I would have wished. I was right, and although my ex-husband and I shared the care of our child for 15 years, I was always the one with less money, a poorer house, more struggles getting time off work for school holidays etc, and I have no regrets.

Our daughter is wellaccomplished, educated and living a happy life in the UK with her husband and only one child – also her choice.

Chris Liddell has proved himself to be the most suitable person for the role of OECD secretarygeneral (Letters, November 22).

I’m sure if Clyde Scott (Letters, November 29) actually re-read the Liddell story he would see what a valued and knowledgable addition Liddell would be.

Not every Republican agrees with Trump and Liddell is a case in point. I look forward to his appointment as secretarygeneral of the OECD, a most important role in a most important organisation at this time of history.
