Escape to the untouched pristine wilderness of Fiordland

-

Explore the remote wilderness of Fiordland National Park, up-close-and-personal with Fiordland Discovery.

Soak up the atmosphere of New Zealand’s largest National Park on a six-night or ninenight expedition aboard the Fiordland Jewel, a boutique catamaran from where you will capture uninterrupted views of the region’s incredible beauty.

Part of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site, Fiordland’s 14 fiords, carved by glaciers some 20,000 years ago are rich in history and spectacular scenery.

Owned and operated by Rob Swale and his wife Kate Rollason who have life-long connections and an extensive historical knowledge of the area and are committed to preserving the area’s future by educating guests about local biodiversity, landscape and nature conservation on every sailing.

Since he was a small boy, Rob has found Fiordland full of wonder and mystery and having spent his whole life there, he treasures the sight of every blue penguin - which is a rare and happy day. After all these years, he is still in deep awe at the sight of the whales migrating, the whistles of dolphins and hearing a kiwi in the morning. He says it’s a special kind of treat that he wishes we could all have more of!

Rob has been involved in tourism since his early 20’s and started fishing charters back in 1994 when he noticed that guests wanted more comfort while spending time in Fiordland. This realisation ultimately led to the establishment of Fiordland Discovery.

He looked to buy a boat, but couldn’t find anything suitable so drew up plans and was physically involved in its creation, as were his sons.

The Fiordland Jewel was launched in 2016 and has everything you will require for your adventure.

All nine climate-controlled cabins have sea views, so you will never miss a moment on your extraordinary journey.

A helipad, top-deck hot tub, and nourishing food, prepared by the onboard chef, ensure you will enjoy the comforts you deserve, amid the rugged charms of Fiordland.

It is Rob and Kate’s privilege to host small group-adventures, showing guests the best the region has to offer and what inspired them to make it their home. As their guest, you will develop a real and lasting connection to this wonderful corner of the country.

Their hope is to meet all guests as friends and allies, fellow humans on Earth, in their shared respect, love and care for the environment.

Fiordland Discovery also offers six-night Rakiura Stewart Island and Marlborough Sounds cruises.

Individual cabins can be booked on their scheduled departures or the Fiordland Jewel is available for private charters. Activities for private charters can be tailored to suit the group’s interests.
