Record turnover
Taranaki Thoroughbred Racing’s Opunake Cup meeting proved attractive for punters. A record $514,373 was invested on fixed odds during the day. That brought the season total for fixed odds betting at the club’s meetings to $4.5 million, up 24 per cent on last season. The club’s on and off course turnover for the season was also up by 3.4 per cent and 6.4 per cent respectively. Chief executive Carey Hobbs said it had been a solid year and it was even more pleasing that the corporate bookings and satisfaction ratings had also strengthened. The first meeting of the 2016/2017 will be on Saturday, August 20 at the Pukekura Raceway.
