New chambers for Chamber

- BRITTANY BAKER

The Taranaki Chamber of Commerce has found itself a new home.

The chamber is moving out of Taranaki House on Robe St and moving into a building on the corner of Egmont St and King St.

Chamber chief executive Richard Williams was elated about the move as he believed the chamber needed to stretch its legs. ‘‘We needed to be our own entity.

‘‘We needed more space and this allows us to be more of an accessible resource,’’ he said.

The new space boasts a large meeting room that Williams said could fit 16 to 20 people and he hoped it would encourage more business owners to ‘‘pop in’’ and have a chat.

‘‘We want this to be a welcoming space. Come in, say hello,’’ he said.

But while the Chamber is say- ing goodbye to Taranaki House, the hole they’ve left will soon be filled by another business service.

Business Central employment specialist Vlad Purgaric will be a one-man show in the corner offices.

‘‘The move was a no-brainer for me,’’ he said. ‘‘We prefer to be there as it’s a hub for business. It will be a one-stop shop for clients.’’

Purgaric, who moved from Auckland to Taranaki three years ago, said Venture Taranaki had approached him about moving into the CBD location.

‘‘Where we were located before was not widely known,’’ Purgaric said.

‘‘Taranaki House is where you can go for anything. We’re complementing services, not competing.’’

Both the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce and Business Central will be welcoming visitors from September 1.
