Jarrad Godman X Servilles
Amassive media pack, international buyers, industry bigwigs and a smattering of Kiwi celebs - New Zealand Fashion Week brought them all together to view the latest lines from dozens of talented designers. From streetwear you could throw on right now to gorgeous glitzy gowns and runway looks that had ripples of ‘‘But where would you ever wear it?’’ running through the audience, the week had it all.
Salasai
Perth-based label Salasai opened day two with an autumn/winter collection of bold prints, moody florals and soft tailoring. Pearl jewellery featured heavily, adding a classic, romantic touch.
Eugenie
Kiwi designers Elizabeth Wilson’s contemporaty label, Eugenie, debuted in a show featuring luxurious velvet slips, complex patterns and large accessories, including the new pastel collection from Deadly Ponies. Wynn Hamlyn put carpet in the spotlight, using it in a range of coats, belts and bags. The show also featured velvets and knits and a palette of maroons, golds and neutrals. Things were a little strange at Jarrad Godman X Servilles. When a show is billed as featuring a hairdressing academy (Servilles), you go into it expecting to see, well, hair. But the models sporting Jarrad Godman’s collection of luxury fabrics and flattering silhouettes also sported full wrapped masks, completely obscuring their hair and faces.
Yu Mei
Structured bags and clutches in black and buttermilk tones shone for awardwinning leather goods designer Yu Mei. The Fine China collection is crafted from 100 per cent deer nappa and is a perfect example of the simple, understated luxury Yu Mei is known for.
