Mini trend: How to wear the rebooted harem pant

-

The shapes are modern and look sophisticated worn with trainers or the seasons flat slipper.

First things first. There are joggers and there are tracksuit pants. They are not the same thing.

Trackies are for the gym, after yoga and for lazing on the couch binge-watching Say Yes to the Dress.

Joggers are for brunch, for date night and, dare I say it, for work . . . sometimes.

We’re calling this season’s jogger the rebooted harem pant because while they often have a relaxed crotch, they stop short of MC Hammer comparisons. But they’re just as comfy.

Who’s doing it . . . and how to work it

It may come as no surprise that when I did a search for ‘‘celebrity jogger pant’’, the first four results were all women whose last name is Hadid.

Gigi and Bella are both masters of working the jogger pant. Off duty, Gigi Hadid likes a white jogger pant with a sequinned jacket or a midriff-revealing top.

For instant work cred, assuming you don’t work at a law firm, add heels, a satin bomber and a crisp T-shirt.

A modern jogger also looks great with a chambray or military style shirt, belted or tied at the waist.

Jacqueline Hunt, design director for Jac + Jack, says the new shape is less baggy, and ‘‘tapered to fall along the body’s lines to create a streamlined and flattering shape’’.

‘‘The shapes are modern and look sophisticated worn with trainers or the seasons flat slipper,’’ she said.

If you want to wear white trainers, make the top dressier – a navy blazer with gold buttons is the perfect antidote.
