Embarrassing loss to St Pats Silverstream

- GLENN MCLEAN

St Patrick’s Silverstream side would undoubtedly have thanked New Plymouth Boys’ High after their annual first XV rugby match on Wednesday.

The list of thanks would have been long, too.

It would have started with them being grateful for Boys’ High making so many mistakes, followed up with thanks for being poor defensively and worked towards them also being happy their set piece was not up to scratch.

It could have also included the fact that their hosts were too predictable in most of their attack and ended with thanks for taking so many wrong options.

Their gratitude would have been well placed as they walked off the Gully 46-17 victors.

For those loyal Boys’ High followers, they would have left the Gully wondering how the team has managed to go backwards since their win over Francis Douglas Memorial College?

Part of that answer lies with the fact they have injuries in key

positions but that should still not have affected them to the extent it did..

Hopefully, it was just a really bad day.

The players did little to help themselves as they made mistake after mistake and the more welldrilled St Pat’s team capitalised.

The visitors were better, no question about that. They got over the advantage line with a well drilled pack and their midfield had a field day as they set those outside them away.

Thee were some bright moments for Boys’ High, including a great try to wing Indiha SautuiHuta and the work rate of captain Michael Loft. However, those moments were few and far between.
