U20s victorious

-

New Zealand are on the verge of advancing to the round of 16 at the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in South Korea, after a 3-1 win over Honduras in their second match on Thursday. They will now finish no worse than third in group E, which means they will be in the hunt to advance as one of the four best third-placed teams, even if they lose their final group match against tournament favourites France on Sunday. They have four points, which was enough for them to do so four years ago, and has been enough at the past four tournaments. For now, New Zealand will celebrate a performance that was a significant improvement on their efforts in Monday night’s 0-0 draw against the Vietnamese, and brought them their second ever win at this level.
