Insult was scratched on vehicle

- CATHERINE GROENESTEIN

A woman scratched a nasty insult into the bonnet of the car of a woman she was feuding with.

Jz ‘Zhana Parearau CorriganUatuku, 19, of Pihama, Taranaki, gouged ‘‘crack wh...’’ into the car because she was angry because of graffiti slurs she believed had been made about her around Opunake, police prosecutor Steve Hickey said.

The defendant arrived at Opunake Beach about 11.45pm on June 11, where her victim and an associate were parked, and used her own vehicle to block their vehicle from leaving.

When they refused to get out, Corrigan-Uatuku got a pair of scissors from her car that she used to make large gouges along both right hand door panels and across the bonnet.

Three weeks later, the defendant saw the victim and her associate in the local Four Square supermarket in Opunake.

A short time later the defendant scratched the derogatory words into the bonnet.

Corrigan-Uatuku pleaded guilty in Hawera District Court on Tuesday to two charges of wilful damage and one of behaving threateningly.

Reparation of $1552.50 was sought for the damage to the vehicle.

The explanation was a breakdown in the relationship between the defendant and the victim, lawyer Neal Harding said

‘‘Young Woman A called Young Woman B rude words and tagged the town with very short and concise sentences outlining how Woman A felt about Woman B, and this is Woman B’s retaliation.’’

Judge Harrison sentenced Corrigan-Uatuku to 150 hours of community work and ordered reparation to be paid off at $10 a week.
