Leitch confident as he targets first win

Southland driver Brendon Leitch says he has learned plenty through the early rounds of the United States Formula 4 series and he feels now is time to notch up a race win.

The promising Kiwi has managed to pull together the resources this year to compete in the United States – something he has long hoped for.

Leitch has completed three rounds to date in the series.

In the first two rounds at Miami and Indiapolosis he finished mid pack in the 30 car field.

However, at the last round in Canada there was plenty of improvement which included two sixth place finishes.

The target is for yet more improvement and push for a first race victory in Ohio this week.

‘‘We’ve made some big improvements at the last round with my driving style, which in turn has helped the car speed a lot,’’ Leitch said. ‘‘The car is very different to what I’m used to. Having less horsepower and downforce requires a bit of a different technique which I’m getting used to.

‘‘I’d like to think we can win a race [at Ohio] at a minimum. By the end of the past round, we were quite quick so it will be interesting.’’

With four rounds to race Leitch has his sights set on finishing towards the top end of the field.

‘‘At this stage, I’d like to finish in the top five.’’
