IMPOSSIBLE MAGIC

- TARA SHASKEY

"There's no rabbits pulled from hats, and no ladies sawn in half in this show."

Nopera Whitley.

There won’t be any women cut in half or rabbits leaping out of hats, but five leading magicians are promising a world of impossible.

As part of their four-stop national tour, show Magicians will come to New Plymouth next month.

Featuring two world champions of magic, the show has been created by young New Zealand producer and magician Nopera Whitley.

‘‘There’s no rabbits pulled from hats, and no ladies sawn in half in this show,’’ he said.

‘‘But what you will see are unbelievable magic acts with a theatrical twist performed by world leading magicians.’’

Wellington-based Whitley said the team of magicians was a collaboration of the best.

Together they would perform a show mixing ‘‘the quirky, the skills and the strange in a world of the impossible’’, he said. The show had a ‘‘theatrical twist to a magic show’’ promoting a side of magic that might be new to a lot of the New Zealand audience, he said.

Heading the magical line-up and hosting the show is Scotland’s Colin Cloud.

Cloud is a well-known mind reader and has been likened to a real-life Sherlock Holmes, Whitley said.

He recently appeared on America’s Got Talent with his performance gaining more than 80 million views online in just 15 days.

‘‘Within only a few seconds of meeting you, he’ll know what you’ve had for lunch, where you’ve been that day, what you do for a living and even your PIN code.’’

From Madrid, Spain, Hector Mancha brings his award-winning act featuring card magic and manipulation.

In 2015, Mancha won the highest honour any magician could receive – the FISM World Grand Prix of Magic Award.

Hailing from the USA is ’’young star’’ Shin Lim and Rob Zabrecky - a two-time Hollywood Magic Castle ‘Stage Magician of the Year’.

Fellow American Charlie Frye, often compared to classic comedians Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, plays the ‘‘rubber-faced, put-upon magician,’’ with Sherry as his bored assistant.

Together the pair perform an act melding silent comedy, magic, clowning, and juggling.

Magicians will take the stage in New Plymouth from October 27 to 29. Tickets are available through Ticketek.
