Big summer of entertainment lined up at Bowl of Brooklands

- LEIGHTON KEITH

The stellar lineup of summer entertainment set to play at Taranaki’s premier outdoor music venue just got bigger.

The Winery Tour 2018 will grace the main stage at New Plymouth’s TSB Bowl of Brooklands on Sunday February 4, promoters Brent Eccles and Campbell Smith of Civic Events Ltd have announced.

The summer tour will feature New Zealand music giants Annie Crummer, Che Fu, Opshop’s Jason Kerrison, Betty-Anne Monga of Ardijah, Hollie Smith and Tami Neilson.

It will complement international artists Yusuf Islam, better known as Cat Stevens, who will play his commemorative A Cat’s Attic Peace Train Tour, marking the 50th anniversary of his first hit single and debut album Matthew and son, at the venue on December 16 and Bryan Adams who will play on January 4.

New Plymouth District Council manager venues and events Ron Murray said it was pleasing to have secured the show on the Sunday before Waitangi Day.

‘‘It’s a really good lineup of New Zealand artists and it’s another opportunity for people to go along and get the bowl experience,’’ Murray said.

‘‘It’s a long weekend so that’s a big plus for us too.

‘‘So if there is people here in the region visiting family and friends then of course it’s another good reason to come along and stay on another day.’’

Murray said it was shaping up to be a great summer of entertainment.

‘‘We are very happy with the lineup, it’s going to be probably one of the busiest summers we’ve ever had, when you take everything into consideration.

‘‘A lot of work has gone on to try and secure a good mix, a good wide range of entertainment for the community and for visitors and we are pretty happy where we have landed.’’

He said the busy summer season would kick off with Christmas and the Bowl on December 10, followed a week later with Cat Stevens and the start of the Festival of Lights, then Bryan Adams and finally The Winery Tour in February.

‘‘There’s a whole huge programme of cricket on as well.

‘‘This is going to be one busy year and obviously we are really happy with that.’’

Murray said the council was always looking for other acts to bring to the bowl but wouldn’t say if there was anything else lined up for the summer. ‘‘Never say never, but it’s too early to say if there will be anything else or not.’’

Promoter Brent Eccles said they were re-energised with the new look Winery Tour and the star-studded lineup.

‘‘We were determined to shake our favourite tour up a bit and we are so thrilled to be able to present such an impressive array of kiwi talent in one show,’’ he said.

Early bird tickets go on sale at midday on October 16 for $69 while full priced tickets, $79, will be available from December 1.
