Charity walk for kids who can’t walk

- KIRSTY MCMURRAY

Pat Julian’s not sure what superhero he’s going to dress up as for a walk around Inglewood’s Mondo track this Sunday.

‘‘I’ll have to have a look in my wardrobe, I’m sure there’s some antiques in there,’’ he said. Julian, former president of the Inglewood Lions Club, has been organising the Child Mobility Foundation’s Walk for Kids.

The annual event raises money by charging an entry fee for people to walk around the TET Stadium in Inglewood as much as they like for a few hours.

The aim is to ‘‘help kids with different health problems, and mostly to purchase walkers for them so they can get around,’’ Julian said.

As well as music and food there are dozens of donated spot prizes to be given away including Shoprite gift baskets, kites, Dino Dominoes and vouchers for all sorts of things including coffee and the bakery, as well as lots of toys and clothes.

‘‘We’ve been around the business community both here and in New Plymouth to collect spot prizes.

‘‘It’s quite amazing the stuff we have got.’’

He said the superhero theme was also a competition and the judges were going to be National MP for Taranaki King Country Barbara Kuriger and New Plymouth deputy mayor Richard Jordan.

The event was meant to happen last weekend but the bad weather had seen the event postponed.

He was hoping the sun would come out for the event this weekend.

The walk is on from 10am-12pm at the TET Stadium. Entry is $5 per child, $10 per adult or $20 for a family group.
