Wonkey Donkey

The man behind one of the country’s most successful children’s books is coming to town. Pop-Up Gigs Taranaki will present The Wonkey Donkey Holiday Show at the Rumpus Room in New Plymouth this Friday. The Queenstown author Craig Smith will present the popular book and song, which tells the story of a funny donkey with three legs, at 10am to 12pm. Tickets are available on Eventfinda, door sales will also be available.

Vintage Day

A fun day for the whole family will be held at Stratford’s Pioneer Village. Visitors are being encouraged to relive the yesteryear­s by dressing in Victorian costume ready to enjoy a host of craft stalls, live displays, vintage machinery and cars, the Victorian Bustle Vintage Photograph­y and a longbow making demonstrat­ion. The event will run on Sunday, October 22.

Organ Recital

The next Lunchtime Organ Recital at Taranaki Interim Cathedral will take place on Thursday, October 19 at 12.15pm. Christophe­r Luke will present organ works by Malcolm Archer, J.S. Bach, Handel, Purcell and Christophe­r Tambling. Admission by gold coin donation.

Book Fair

Inglewood Lions Club is holding a book fair on October 14 at Inglewood Club on Moa St, Inglewood from 9am to 4pm. Books, puzzles, DVDs, magazines and CDs all at give away prices. All proceeds will go to Youth Line and Inglewood District Health Trust.

Pop-Up Gig

A potluck banquet with a double helping of entertainm­ent will take place this weekend in New Plymouth. The Pop-Up Gigs Network will present Wine, Dine ‘n’ Dance Party at Jetcharm Barber Shop and Gentlemen’s Quarters on Saturday. The BYO event will feature music duo Ed Pool, a collaborat­ion between Andre Manella and Urs Signer, and Graeme Woller. The event begins at 6pm, tickets are $20 instore.

Solo Exhibition

A chef turned artist is holding her first solo exhibition. Donna O’Donoghue, originally of Stratford, is currently showcasing a body of work, titled Dreamisphe­re, at New Plymouth’s JD Reid gallery on Devon St West. The exhibition is a mixture of photograph­s and displays which allows the digital and resin artist to show off her creativity and sense of humour. Featuring in the exhibition, is two installati­ons reflecting two of images. Dreamisphe­re runs until October 22.

Govett Brewster Art Gallery/ Len Lye Centre

❚ The Len Lye Centre Cinema screens Tom Ford’s psychologi­cal thriller Nocturnal Animals, in associatio­n with the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery’s exhibition Surface Affect on Sunday, October 15 at 4pm. Details and tickets are online and at the Gallery.

❚ Govett-Brewster Art Gallery’s after school art classes Young Visionarie­s start on Wednesday, for six to eightyear-olds, and Thursday, for nine to

12-year-olds, of the new school term. The term costs $55 per child, book online or at the gallery.
