One critical after crash

One person is in a critical condition after a crash on State Highway 1 near Taupo¯ yesterday. The person was the driver of the car which hit a barrier just south of Wairakei at 4.15pm. ‘‘The car is blocking traffic in both directions,’’ a police spokeswoman said. The road was closed between Wairakei roundabout and Centennial Dr until the scene was cleared. ‘‘Diversions are in place but they are a long way from the crash site, so we’re asking people to delay their travel.’’
