Only one match completed

-

Rain again had a major impact on the latest round of the Taranaki premier one-day cricket competition.

Just one match was able to be completed with Hawera United edging Stratford by four wickets in Hawera.

The home side’s victory was built largely on a patient innings by English import Reid Mawdsley who was unbeaten on 93 off 145 balls as Hawera United chased down the target of 210 with more than four overs to spare.

Earlier, Stratford had made 209-8 from their 50 overs with Tyla Judson top-scoring with 57. Other major contributions came at the top of the order with Taranaki reps Dean Robinson (30) and Liam Muggeridge (32) making good starts but failing to go on with it.

Hawera United always looked in control of the chase with Mawdsley getting good support from Adam Keene who made 36.

Stratford’s bowlers were off target often, sending down 25 wides in an extras total that reached 34.

Elsewhere, New Plymouth Old Boys were left regretting persistent light rain after they made 318-2 against New Plymouth Boys’ High School on the grass at Western Park.

Taranaki rep James McDougall made 127 off 127 balls, including four fours and eight sixes while fellow rep Kaylum Boshier was also unbeaten on 82 when the innings ended.

Boys’ High did not get out in the middle once the rain arrived.

It was a similar story not far away from that match with New Plymouth Marist United not getting the opportunity to chase Woodleigh’s total of 270.

Former international Peter Ingram and Moriz Hartmann both made 86.

The remaining match between Inglewood and Francis Douglas Memorial College was abandoned.
